Paris was born on the Ile de la Cité. This fantastic Island on the Seine River is the real heart of the city. From this small island, the city grew over time to become the French capital that we love today. Up today, only a few number of Parisians are still fortunate enough to call the island home. The island is also famous for hosting the Sainte Chapelle, the Palais de Justice, the Conciergerie and the Hôtel-Dieu. The flat is at easy walking distance of the Louvre Museum, The Pompidou center, and the Latin Quarter. All shopping necessities and fine shops and restaurants are present or very close by either on the same street or nearby on the Isle Saint Louis. The two islands are organized in such a way that you feel in a Village in the heart of Paris.
The one-bedroom apartment is located on one of the few medieval roads on Île de la Cité preserved by Haussmann’s major works. This house, whose demolition was planned to regularize the street, was preserved by a 1962 decree of André Malraux. Also, at number 6 of the street, you can see on the roadway the layout of the first enclosure of Paris, built in 276 during the great invasion of the Barbarians.
You are in the pulse of the city: cross over the bridge to Ile Saint Louis and you will be in the village spirit of this preserved neighborhood. Ile Saint Louis offers everything from pharmacies, a news stand, several banks with ATM, a florist, three bakeries, three grocery stores, a cheese shops, a couple of wine handler, art galleries and many other fine shops.
After that you are spoilt for choice: left bank, with the latin quarter, Saint Michel, Saint Germain des Pres, or right bank with the Marais, the Louvre, Les Halles, the Champs Elysees…..
On the Île de la Cité, rue de la Colombe owes its name to a love story between two doves who are said to have lived here in the 13th century. This legend is recalled by the sculptures and bas-reliefs on the old house at no. 4.
In the 13th century, rue de la Colombe no. 4 was home to a Breton sculptor who was working on the construction of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, and had tamed a pair of doves. One day, probably following a flood in the Seine, the house collapsed, and the doves were trapped in the rubble. Only the male managed to escape.
Several times a day, he fetched seeds from Paris to feed his mate, and made her drink water from the Seine using a piece of straw. The spectacle moved the local residents, who joined forces to free the female.
On the day of their reunion, the birds soared into the sky and performed a dance to thank those who had saved them.
